Carlos is a professionally frustrated screenwriter, and Irene is not sure what she wants to do with her life. When Irene meets Carlos at a coffee shop, she approaches him and, although she doesn't know him, proposes to play a game.

University Professor Juanjo falls into a tailspin of depression and confusion after being dumped by his girlfriend. Convinced that he is being manipulated by her, he persuades his boldest student, Nico, to help him regain his former love. However, their seemingly simple plan ends up being a perverse game.

Two children, Ignacio and Enrique, know love, the movies and fear in a religious school at the beginning of the 1960s. Father Manolo, director of the school and its professor of literature, is witness to and part of these discoveries. The three are followed through the next few decades, their reunion marking life and death.
